Education: Graduated from Whittier College in California, and Duke University Law School in Durham, North Carolina.

Family life: Married Patricia Ryan Nixon on June 21, 1940. The Nixons were devoted parents to their two daughters, Tricia (now Mrs. Edward Cox), and Julie (now Mrs. David Eisenhower). Pat Nixon used her position as First Lady to encourage volunteer service "the spirit of people helping people." Mrs. Nixon met the troubled days of Watergate with dignity. "I love my husband," she said, "I
believe in him, and I am proud of his accomplishments." She died at home in Park Ridge, New Jersey, on June 22, 1993. She and the former President are buried at the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace in Yorba Linda, California.
Political career: Entered politics after World War II naval service. Congressman from California, 1946-51; elected United States senator in 1950.Vice-President for Eisenhower, 1953-1961. Nominated for president in 1960, but was defeated by Kennedy. Defeated for governor of California in 1962. Nominated for president in 1968 and again in 1972.
Highlights of his presidency: Preoccupied with trying to end war in Indo-China in first term. Promoted more normal relations with Russia and China through detente. Second term was marred by Watergate scandal, which put him under increasing pressure to resign or face impeachment trial. Resigned from office on August 9, 1974.
Appearance: Medium height; dark hair, gray at temples; turned up nose.
Died: April 22, 1994 in New york, New York.
